How to Dissuade Yourself from Becoming a Blogger

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Wow, three posts in one day, this must be some kind of a record (actually, I think it is a record for my blog).

But I just couldn’t resist sharing this link with you… How to Dissuade Yourself from Becoming a Blogger

The Pit and the Pendulum

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

After some experimentation with the old Super 8 camera, and some watching of films etc, I think it would be quite fun to make an actual film with an actual plot. Since I can’t write stories to save myself, I should probably adapt a story. Probably one in the public domain. :-) The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe is rather a good story, with no dialogue (perfect for silent film!) and not terribly many special effects to worry about.

Some news for my loyal readers (and friends). Last night (this morning, German time) I got sick of waiting and sent an email asking if they had an estimate for when offers would be sent out. Their reply:

The decision for the places will be made in two weeks.

So I guess it’s back to waiting for me. And the full-time job.

The Scanner Photography Project

Friday, January 20th, 2006

On a brighter note to that last post (sorry!), while I was catching up on some /. because I was bored, I came across this link: www.scannerphotography.com/ [NB, because it's on /. it's been /.-ed, that site now links to some mirrors of the original site. I've been browsing mirror.geo.localizedmedia.com/scannerphotography.com]. What an amazingly cool idea. Next time I have a lot of money with nothing to spend it on (ha!) I’d be tempted have a shot at building one.

Of course, we all know how successful my iMacquarium project was, but who needs a reality check anyway… :-P

In today’s Reuters Odd Spot…

Oh look, how quaint, men knitting. Must be a club for all those Gays that I’ve read about to meet, they even have Avocado Moisturiser and other skin care products, how sweet for them! Oh, they have straight guys too. Must be the ones that haven’t come out yet! Heh heh heh. Let’s all have a chuckle and feel nice and superior cos at least WE’re normal. (But not like those stinky Rednecks, at least we’re open-minded enough to read about Gays-sorry-men knitting. And laught at them. Heh heh heh.)

New crumpler, more knitting

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

Knitting first. I have finished the back of my Harry jumper. (phew.) Now there’s only the front, and two arms left to do.

Crumpler second. I have decided it is time to replace the blue backpack/messenger bag crossbreed that has served me faithfully for the past five years, carrying my stuff around with me almost every day. Since I had enjoyed the messenger bag half of the crossbreed rather more than the backpack half, I thought a Crumpler might be a good investment — also because a Crumpler is probably likely to last the next five years under similar wear and tear. (I hope.) Because I want to be able to carry my laptop around, I went for a “Considerable Embarrassment”. (Who comes up with these names?) Because I want to ride with the bag, I went to the Custom Crumpler store in Fitzroy to get a “Third Leg” attached. Because I’m me, I went to the Custom Crumpler store in Fitzroy to get the bag, not in the pale blue or pale green that they usually come in, but in a design of my own, erm, designing. (Prose. Yeah. Go me.)

Photos follow. Of course.
